Rosters featuring the Top 100 draft-eligible players from across black college football have been released in advance of the Russell Athletic HBCU All-Star Bowl, to be held Saturday, Dec. 18 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
Among those selected from the Division I Mid-Eastern Athletic and Southwestern Athletic conferences were Grambling running back Frank Warren, South Carolina State quarterback Malcolm Long, Arkansas-Pine Bluff wide receiver Raymond Webber, Florida A&M running back Philip Sylvester, Prairie View A&M quarterback K.J. Black, Bethune-Cookman defensive back Arkee Smith, Arkansas-Pine Bluff quarterback John Boudreaux, South Carolina State linebacker David Erby, Bethune-Cookman quarterback Matt Johnson and Jackson State wide receiver Anthony Mayes, among others.
Standouts are included from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, which compete in the NCAA’s Division II, as well.
Shaw, which claimed its third CIAA championship in three years with a 14-7 win on Saturday over Virginia State, has placed three on the roster — including quarterback Kevin Atkins. Albany State, meanwhile, earned its first SIAC crown since 2006 over Fort Valley State in a game that produced six invitees to the HBCU All-Star Bowl.
Ten alternates are also chosen for an event that includes an official combine administered by National Football Scouting. Last year, 32 pro teams attended the week’s practices and game. That led to a pair of HBCU draft picks and 16 free-agent deals for student-athletes from black colleges in the 2010 NFL Draft — all of whom participated in this game.
Proceeds benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
