Bethune-Cookman got eight first-place nods from voters in the initial BlackCollegeBaseball.com Division I poll for 2011, opening the new season where it finished last year.
Bethune-Cookman is 4-4, similar to fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe North Carolina A&T, which received four first-place votes to finish No. 2. Third in the polling was 2-5 Southern of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Grambling, which won the SWAC last year but is 2-5 early in this season, is fourth — though it received three first-place nods. The MEAC’s Norfolk State (2-4) rounds out the Top 5.
The poll continues with Texas Southern, Jackson State, Florida A&M, Savannah State and Alabama State. Alcorn State and Mississippi Valley State fell out of the polling.
